Cultural Safari Tanzania

Tanzania is one of the most culturally diverse countries in Africa with more than 120 tribes. Immerse yourself in the fascinating culture of the graceful Maasai warriors and Hazabe Bushmen on this Cultural Safari Tanzania. Day 1: Arrival – Arusha

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be welcomed by one of our experienced driver-guides who will take you to your to Arusha Villa. Settle in this top notch boutique hotel and take some time to acclimatize. The spacious rooms are nicely decorated with an African touch and the view from the infinity swimming pool is great, as well as the food they serve.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

In the morning we drive in about 2 hours to Tarangire National Park, where thousands of baobab trees dot the hilly landscape. This park is reputed to have one of the highest concentration of elephants in the world, around 3,000. It’s a beautiful sight to see hundreds of elephants roaming the place, drinking at the Tarangire River or taking a mud bath. Apart from elephants, Tarangire is also a bird paradise with over 500 bird species, such as parrots, kori bustards, lovebirds, hornbills and eagles. The perfect place to spot leopards, cheetahs, lions and even tree-climbing pythons are the swamps. In the afternoon we drive to an authentic Maasai boma (village) at Makuyuni. Here we will have dinner (BBQ) and can enjoy the dancing of young Maasai warriors and other activities. Overnight in tents in de Maasai village.

Day3: Makuyuni – Maasai Warriors

Discover today the culture, traditions and customs of Africa’s most famous tribal people, the colourful Maasai. Experience their way of life by joining activities, such as getting water from the waterholes, preparing yoghurt and milk, creating handcrafts or herding the cattle to fresh vegetation. A village chief will take you on a tour through the village and explain their beliefs and how they live in peace with the surrounding wildlife. The Maasai are known for their endurance and courage as warriors. Tonight we sleep in tents in the Maasai village.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, we drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Arriving at the crater rim you can enjoy the spectacular views into the crater floor before descending. This wildlife arena is truly a world within a world with its own unique ecosystem. It is home to the Big Five and the densest population predators found anywhere in Africa. The grounds of the crater floor house lions, hyenas, cheetahs and leopards, hippos, elephants, flamingos, ostriches, zebras and even the rare black rhino. It’s easy to spot animals in the Ngorongoro crater, since the crater floor is mainly flat. After an exciting day of game viewing we drive in the late afternoon to the stylish Ngorongoro Farm House in Karatu.

Day 5: Lake Eyasi – Hadzabe Bushmen

In the morning we drive south of the Ngorongoro to the remote Lake Eyasi. It’s time to explore this beautiful lake and the main inhabitants of this area, the Hadzabe Bushmen. This fascinating tribe still lives by hunting and gathering fruits, honey and insects from the bush. They are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherers in Africa and live like our ancestors did for thousands of years. You can join them on an exciting hunting trip or participate in activities such as preparing food or making a fire. There is so much we can learn from them.

In the afternoon we drive back to the Maasai village in Makuyuni. A huge BBQ and traditional Maasai dance are planned for tonight as it’s your last night here. Eat, drink and dance!

Day 6: Makuyuni

This morning we will visit Nashipay Maasai School, the only primary school in this Maasai community. Afterwards we go on a hike through the Maasai village whilst learning about traditional medicine made from plants and trees. For lots of travelers these cultural experiences are one of the most memorable. In the afternoon we head back to Arusha. You can choose this afternoon to relax at you accommodation -Arusha Villa has a beautiful pool – or we can go on a city tour to explore Arusha town. Dinner and overnight at Arusha Villa.

Day 7: Departure

Today will be your last day in Arusha. Relax and spend the day at leisure before you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport in time for your flight.
