Chemka Hot Springs
After a 40 km ride from Moshi, passing small villages, this hidden oasis just pops up in the middle of nowhere. Chemka Hot Springs is a natural pool with warm, azure blue water surrounded by tropical lush forest. The groundwater blends with geothermal sources that bubbles up from the ground. Since the warm water is so clear, you can see the bottom, which is 10 meters deep at some places. It’s a beautiful peaceful spot to relax, swim and have a picnic. These Chemka springs are truly a little piece of paradise.
Lake Chala
Lake Chala is a beautiful crystal clear crater lake, close to Mount Kilimanjaro and a hour drive from Moshi. This rocky crater is 8km2, with a depth between 70 to 100m. The colour of the lake varies from blue to turquoise and green, depending on the time of year. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic views at the crater rim over the tropical forest and lake. On a clear day you can even see the mighty Kilimanjaro. It’s a great place to relax or to go swimming, kayaking, fishing or hiking down to the lake. Moreover, you can spot a variety of birds, but also small mammals like dik-dik, kudu and monkeys. Get close to nature and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of this ancient crater lake.
Kilimanjaro – day hike
Depart early morning to drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft), at the foothills of Kilimanjaro. Hikers need to register themselves at the gate, before the hike can start. The trail begins on a small path through the rainforest. This lush forest is covered with mist and beards of moss. Here you can see all kind of small animals from mongoose to monkeys and birds. About three hours later you will reach Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft) where you have some time to rest you legs and also a lunch will be served. After restoring energy, you take a short walk to Maundi Crater to enjoy the stunning views. It’s now time to hike a few hours back down through the rainforest to the Marangu Gate, where our vehicle will be waiting for you.
Arusha National Park: day game drive
Discover this small, lovely park on a day game drive. It certainly offers a wide variety of landscapes, from savannah to alkaline lakes, rainforest and Mount Meru. Explore the Ngurdoto Crater, which is shaped like a bowl with steep walls covered in dense forest. It looks like a miniature Ngorongoro Crater with animals living on the marshy crater floor. Walk on the crater rim and observe the wildlife below. Furthermore, in the north-east of the park you can see the beautiful Momela Lakes, surrounded by grassy green hills. These alkaline lakes all have another color – from green to blue – due to different algae that grow here. In this park you can spot the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkeys, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and pink flamingos. Arusha National Park is also a great place to enjoy views of Mount Meru and Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. Lake Manyara National Park: day game drive
Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s smaller national park, but incredible diverse. From acacia woodland to a soda lake, swamps, hot springs, grassland and the Great Rift Valley. Almost two-third of the park is underwater which attracts pelicans, flamingos, hippos and so many more animals. The forest is the perfect place to see herds of elephants, large troops of baboons and lions climbing in trees, resting on the branches. On the grassy shores of the lake you can also spot giraffes, warthogs, wildebeest and zebras. More than 500 species of birds are recorded here including the superb starling, yellow lovebirds, lilac breasted roller and the kori bustard. Explore this lovely park, located on the edge of the Rift Valley, during a day game (1,5h drive from Arusha). Tarangire National Park: day game drive
Tarangire National Park is a picturesque wildlife park in the north of Tanzania, a two-hour drive from Arusha. It has certainly one of the most beautiful sceneries with thousands of majestic baobab trees dotting the hilly landscape. Tarangire is known to have one of the highest concentration of elephants in the world, around 3,000. It’s a beautiful sight to see hundreds of elephants roaming the place, drinking at the Tarangire River or taking a mud bath. The lovely swamps are the perfect place to spot lots of tropical birds but also leopards, cheetahs, lions and even tree-climbing pythons. Tarangire is very green and lush since the permanent water of the Tarangire River is running through the park. Therefore, during the dry season the banks of the river burst to life when wildlife from miles around gather at the river to drink. Enjoy the beauty of this park on a day game drive.
