Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s oldest and largest national park. The rolling grassy hills, dotted with palms, swamps and forests make this park incredible scenic. The main attraction of the park are the Murchison Falls, where the Nile River tumbles down after it forces its way through a gap in the rocks. Marvel at this thundering spectacle and enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife during a hike, game drive or boat safari.
Game viewing
The northern part of the national park has open savanna with the highest density of animals and is therefore the most popular. A game drive from the park headquarters at Paraa to the waterfall is really great. You can see elephants and buffaloes drinking at the banks of the Nile River, hippos grunting in the shallows and lurking crocodiles. Four of the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo) are present in this park, as well as giraffes, patas monkeys, leopards and chimps. Murchison Falls is, like most Ugandan parks, also a wonderful bird destination.
Murchison Falls
It is spectacular what happens to the world’s longest river, the Nile, in Murchison Falls National Park. The river channels through a gap, millions cube of water dropping down 43 meters, foaming white water and a thunderous noise. The Murchison Falls are truly a wonderful spectacle of nature and a show of mighty power! This impressive waterfall is set between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert on the White Nile River in north-west Uganda.
Boat trip up the Nile
Game drives are not the only way to view wildlife and the breathtaking scenery in Murchison Falls. You can take a hike up to the top of the falls, fly over the savannah in a hot air balloon and marvel at the wildlife below or go birdwatching. If you crave an adventurous safari trip, hop on a boat to cruise on the mighty Nile River, amidst crocodiles and hippos. This is an exciting and unique way of wildlife viewing, since the banks of the Nile are teemed with wildlife like elephants, warthogs, crocodiles, hippos, lions and giraffes.
